INTERVIEW // We chat with Dizharmonia and find out about their life in music

Dizharmonia is made up of Sotiris and Sokratis, two Greeks from Athens sharing the same love for the Deep Melodic Techno sound. Their inspiration and influence are gathered by the modern sounds of techno and the old school sounds of progressive to create tracks aromatised by atmospheric and wicked synths, strings, aggressive basslines and tight drums.

We were lucky enough to get the chance to talk with Dizharmonia about their life in music and hear their latest track.

Tell us about your earliest musical memory?

Sotiris: My father’s records of Pink Floyd.

Sokratis: Placebo, as a teenager.

At what point in your life did you have that moment where you said to yourself “This is it. This is the type of music I want to create?”

Both: It was at the same time for both of us. It was when we sat in the studio listening to first TOU and then Agents of Time tracks. We felt that this was our sound. That was about 5 years ago.

Please list some of the most influential albums on your creative outlook and output:

Pink Floyd-Echoes

The Cure-ALL the albums

Royksopp-The understanding

Vangelis-Mythodia

What key pieces of gear/software are you using to define your sound?

We work with Ableton Live using numerous VST’s, depending on the sound that we want to create and a drum machine to enrich our drums.

What inspires you outside of music? What do you turn to when the creative well runs a little low?

Sotiris: Mostly travelling, sunsets and meeting interesting people.

Sokratis: Travelling of course and good food!

What is your opinion on the ever-spreading sub-genre vine? Are there too many? Do you think there’ s perhaps a sub-genre that doesn’t get the attention it deserves?

We think that you cannot use a certain “label” for music generally. A track itself might “contain” 5-6 different genre sounds, depending on the inspiration. There are times when you cannot categorise a track’s sound at all. Take a look at Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody… What genre is that?

Studio work and music creation or performing and interacting with a live audience, what do you prefer?

Totally different…Studio means introversion…searching deep into your heart and mind to create something new…Performing and interacting with the audience means letting yourself loose, having fun and experiencing catharsis through music…

As a music artist, it becomes apparent that there is a huge difference between the art and the business. Is there anything about the music scene that you would personally change?

YES, that’s a huge topic of conversation today…We would take it back to the basics, back to the underground. No Social media, No PR, just vinyl’s and people actually touching the music and letting themselves be touched by the music. But, there is nothing we can do about it. Each ERA has its own characteristics.

Any new or upcoming artists on your radar? Who shouldn’t the world sleep on?

Many…That was the reason we created our own label. We want to help all these new talented artists to grow faster in the scene. We have our favourite artists like Lauren Mia (Our A&R), Elena Kulstoff, Opposite Ways and many more

What can we expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or gigs in the pipeline that you would like to tell us about?

We are very excited about our first ADE show. Its a milestone for us and we are thinking of having more LIVE acts at the National Observatory Dome of Athens.
